south bay. 6:09. let's go to steve. sal, thank you, sir. very good morning. skies are clear. little bit of fog looks like down towards santa cruz, monterey. that's about all i can find so far. that has to be really shallow. the pollen count continues to favor the grass is really high. trees are making a little push. little surge there. olive, juniper, pine, birch is in there. mulberry. all over the place. again grasses and molds actually continue to be really high as well. not only humans but pets too. true. i took my cat stormy in he had allergies that's what the vet told me. if you're wondering maybe your pet has it too. it's been bad this year. skies are clear except for the mentioned fog i touched on briefly towards santa cruz. mostly clear, patchy fog, afternoon breeze though. yesterday we picked up that north wind. took care of the fog. wiped it out. today though even though it's clear i think we'll see a little westerly breeze. had some low 60s. mountain view says they're still holding onto a 60.

6:15 am
welcome back to the morning news. house speaker john boehner sent a letter to president obama warning the president that he needs to justify continued u.s. action in libya. boehner said he wants a response by friday. the house speaker says if the president doesn't respond, he could be in violation of the war powers resolution. that prohibits u.s. troops from being involved in military actions more than 90 days without congressional aughtization. the white house has suggested that the limited u.s. action in libya is not subject to the war powers resolution. pakistani officials have arrested a handful of people who helped the c.i.a. find and kill osama bin laden. ktvu's allison burns is in our washington d.c. newsroom with how the arrests are increasing tension between the u.s. and
6:16 am
pakistan. allison. >> reporter: u.s. officials are extremely frustrated with pakistan's military and the mistrust between the two countries is growing especially in light of these arrests. the new york times reports five c.i.a. informants are in pakistani custody. one of them includes an army major who copied the license plates of cars visiting osama bin laden's compound in abbottabad, pakistan. another person in custody is reportedly the owner of a safe house the u.s. used to spy on the bin laden compound. it's unclear what charges they're facing. the nominee to be c.i.a. director general david patraeus is meeting this hour with california senator diane feinstein, the chair of the senate intelligence committee. we have a crew covering the event. we're trying to get reaction from them and bring it here for you on the morning news. for now we're live in washington d.c., allison burns, ktvu channel 2 news. time now 6:16.

happening right now, the prosecution in the casey anthony murder trial in florida expected to rest its case. now this is just a live picture. we're inside live the courtroom in orlando, florida. there's the judge there. the 25-year-old florida mother casey anthony is accused of trying to kill her 2-year-old daughter. again, we're looking at some of the live proceedings happening in court in orlando. prosecutors claim casey anthony repeatedly lied about her daughter's whereabouts during the month little caylee was missing. the defense contends the child was not murdered at all but actually drowned in her grandparents' swimming pool. back here at home democrats in sacramento say they will be able to meet tonight's midnight deadline to pass a new state budget. we're live in sacramento. mike, you're going to tell us what democrats are giving up in order to make sure that budget is passed on time. good morning.
6:18 am
>> reporter: good morning. well, they essentially may resort to the quote unquote gimmicks that we've seen in the past with some of these budgets. but for now there is at this point still no budget deal in place. and that may help to explain why that new field poll you mentioned a little earlier is proving so negative or bad for the lawmakers. as you said that new poll shows the governor's support is kind of waning here. his disapproval rating jumping up the last couple months. however, the biggest issue with this new field poll is the legislative lawmakers as a whole, their approval rating is only 23%. and worse 69% of voters say they don't have confidence that even with pending budget deal the legislature's moving in the right direction to resolve our budget deficit. >> we're going to bite the bullet. we're going to act as adults, rise above our own little comfort zones whether from the left or right in the middle and get working for california.
6:19 am
>> this legislature's long history of passing smoke and mirror budgets. it's time to put an end to that. we need punishments that are really balanced and focus on the legislature's mind of doing its job and doing it on time. >> reporter: the bottom line today is that the legislature is expected to take a vote later today on a proposed budget deal. state senate protem saying that will have a budget done by the end of the day today. as of now there is no budget deal in place just yet. at least no vote has been taken just yet expecting first meeting at 10:00 this morning. a criminal investigation is now underway into the san bruno pipeline explosion. pg&e informed shareholders this week in a filing with the securities exchange commission the justice department, the california attorney general's office and the san mateo county district attorney's office have a task force to investigate the deadly september blast that killed several people and destroyed almost 40 homes.
6:20 am
all right. our time is now 6:19. let's talk traffic now. sal what is your occupation are you seeing out there? we have a lot to go on here. we have a lot of live pictures we want to show you. let's first of all go out and take a look at pardon me highway 4 westbound. traffic is getting busier here. it's also slow in antioch as well. it's going to be slow here. when you get to the bay area bridges, golden gate bridge looks good. southbound as you head down to the toll plaza. also westbound bray # bay bridge getting a little bit of a back up now. looks like maybe a 10 minute delay here at the toll plaza. at 6:20 let's go to steve. thank you, sal. very good morning. clear skies. patchy fog very little down towards santa cruz and monterey. that's all i can find right now. the coast is clear as we like to say. no breeze. very calm. west-southwest fairfield. but when sfo says calm and santa rosa calm and less than 3 at san jose there's not much going on. 50s or low 60s on the temps. speaking of that breeze or lack thereof there's not much.
6:21 am
most locations say calm. i do expect it to pick up later on today but a beautiful day by the coast if you don't like warm or hot weather head over to the west if you do like warm weather stay inland. or go inland because it's going to be warm to hot with 90s. 60s to 90s on the temps. looks like today though is probably the transition day. i mean i think sometimes might come down a little. some stay the same as yesterday. cool it down thursday, friday, saturday. all signs point towards another warm up sunday into monday. americans paid more for food, cars and clothing last month. consumer prices are up, but not by as much as they were in april. food prices had the biggest jump for the first time in a year. energy prices fell though. but food and gas prices have helped push up inflation 3.6% in the last 12 months. that's the biggest increase in three years. good news for many people with 401ks, many businesses that cut contributions to retirement accounts are reinstating the benefit this year. but the contribution rate may be lower than before the
6:22 am
recession. a recent survey shows 93% of all u.s. employers offer 401k plans now compared to 83% before the recession. all right. time now 6:21. some tsa screeners are accused of racial profiling. who they allegedly targeted at a major airport that's under suspicion. and an east bay attraction comes crashing down. the slip up that could take years to fix. good morning. northbound 101 getting a little bit busy now as you drive up to 880. we'll tell you more about the san jose and south bay commute.
6:23 am

6:26 am
accused of racial profiling. the newark star ledger obtained a report stating screeners at newark international of singling out mexican and anyone can passengers. tsa guards even nicknamed colleagues mexican hunters. the report says screeners scrutinized the documents of spanish speaking travelers. it was an effort to make the airport's behavior detection officer unit look more productive. san mateo police say they're trying to piece together clues to a homicide. paramedics received a medical call to all american self- storage on east 3rd avenue. when they arrived they found a person who appeared to have been stabbed to death. detectives believe the victim, justin lockwood, was not specifically targeted, but evidence also shows the incident was not a random act of violence. anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call san mateo police. our time now 6:26. well, hundreds of students at bethny university in scots valley are scrambling after
6:27 am
finding out the college is closing. it's a christian college. they're planning to shut down after 91 years. now it's 500 students have been told the school will help them transfer to other institutions. in a written statement the school says a decision comes after several failed attempts to get extra funding. one of the graduates says this is a school that will be missed. >> you know it's just sad that i won't be able to say i graduated from my school and it still exists. it won't be there anymore. so i'm bummed. >> last week it was announced that a private group of investors would buy the school, but that deal fell through. the board of trustees will officially vote next month on the school's closure. overnight gunfire near an east bay bart station, what police say happened moments before the shooting. >> reporter: i'm tara moriarty live in san jose where police have arrested a middle schoolteacher on suspicion of child molestation. we just got off the phone with

6:32 am
we watched as hayward police scoured for the two armed robbers with canine officers after the shooting. from what police gathered, a husband and wife were making their way home from the south hayward bart station with two young men in their late teens or early 20s approached them near the overpass. the gunman ordered the couple to hand over their belongings. police say the couple didn't struggle or resist but somehow in the process the husband was shot twice. paramedics rushed him to the hospital where he remains in critical condition. his wife was not hurt. hayward police told me this morning they're looking for the two gunmen. gunmen who ran away after the shooting. detectives only have vague descriptions of the young men. and they're still searching for them. they believe that their average height between 5'78" and 9'" with a thin to medium build. the robbers last seen wearing white t-shirts and dark colored pants. to give you a better idea of where we are this morning i want to bring you back out live. this is the south hayward bart station. the shooting took place about a half a block away from the bart
